April 6, 2012: Illinois Governor Quinn grants more Clemency and Pardon petitions
As an attorney whose focus is clemency, I was happy to hear Illinois Governor Pat Quinn granted 52 pardon petitions on Good Friday. Gov. Quinn is known for granting clemency (commonly known as a pardon) around the holidays. If you look at his pattern, he generally grants pardons around the most-celebrated holidays, especially Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. Unfortunately, the Chicago Tribune is too lazy to [...]

CHANGE IN ILLINOIS LAW AS OF 1/1/2012! RETAIL THEFT, SUPERVISION…NO LONGER 5 YEAR WAIT TO EXPUNGE!
As of January 1, 2012, the Illinois Criminal Identification Act has changed a bit, to the benefit of people who need to have their records expunged or sealed. Prior to 2012, people who were sentenced to supervision for misdemeanor retail theft had to wait 5 years after the successful termination of supervision to file to expunge their record. Now, however, people no longer have to [...]

Rarely, do you hear of even the most peaceful protests where at least one person isn’t arrested. The court often dismisses the charges; however, the protesters are still left with a criminal record for life, unless they expunge or [...]

Arrested for DUI in Illinois? Only if it was dismissed can you expunge/seal the arrest
Michael Lewis, a Chicago resident, was arrested by Morris police in October of 2010 for aggravated driving under the influence. Earlier this month, a Grundy County Circuit Court judge sentenced Lewis (after a plea of guilty) to conditional discharge, jail, and community service. Lewis has a previous record of DUI arrests as well. ### DUI’s are (unfortunately) a very common offense. Many people think “supervision” [...]
