Sticking with his Easter tradition, Governor Quinn grants pardons for many, including our clients

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn likes to grant clemency petitions (aka pardons) during the holidays. Sticking with his holiday tradition, on Good Friday, Governor Quinn granted 87 pardons to those convicted of crimes in the State of Illinois. (He also denied 135 petitions.) Pardon received for Tamara Holder’s client Governor Blagojevich left Governor Quinn with a huge backlog when he was impeached in January of 2009. [...]

Obama & governors’ deluded fear of granting clemency and pardons

From the time I graduated from law school, I founded xpunged.com & have focused my practice on pardons (and criminal defense) – creating a case for the governor to show that my client – once a criminal – is now a law-abiding, contributing member of society. CHANGE IN ILLINOIS LAW AS OF 1/1/2012! RETAIL THEFT, SUPERVISION…NO LONGER 5 YEAR WAIT TO EXPUNGE!

As of January 1, 2012, the Illinois Criminal Identification Act has changed a bit, to the benefit of people who need to have their records expunged or sealed. Prior to 2012, people who were sentenced to supervision for misdemeanor retail theft had to wait 5 years after the successful termination of supervision to file to expunge their record. Now, however, people no longer have to [...]

I filed my Clemency/Pardon petition, had a hearing before the Prisoner Review Board, now what?

Here is what we tell our clients after we’ve filed their pardon aka petition for clemency and appeared before the Board for a hearing: PROCESS: Pardon filing –> Pardon hearing before Prisoner Review Board –> Board votes on whether they think  Governor should/should not grant your pardon –> Regardless of their non-binding opinion/vote,  Board must send your pardon to Governor –> Pardon sits on Governor’s desk until he [...]
